Canada to accelerate spousal sponsorship application processing
IRCC has made some significant changes in regards to spousal sponsorship application processing. Canada is proposing to process and conclude 6,000 spousal sponsorship applications every month between October and December 2020, declared by Immigration, Refugees, and Citizenship Canada (IRCC).
IRCC has assigned the number of staff that will review the Spousal sponsorship application by 66%, which will reduce the processing time.
Moreover, IRCC will use new technology in a pilot to digitize paper applications. This permits IRCC representatives to work remotely and at different work settings, which will provide an option to handle the application quickly.
Migration serve Marco Mendicino perceived the difficulties that slower processing has caused for families, stating:
We understand that the last few months have not been easy for those who are far from their loved ones in these difficult times. This is why we are accelerating the approval of spousal applications as much as possible. Our government will continue to find new ways to keep families together.
IRCC noticed that the COVID pandemic has made vulnerability for Canadian residents and permanent residents hoping to support their spouse. It will keep on looking for an innovative and sympathetic approach to unite families together.
Under its Immigration Levels Plan 2020-2022, Canada focused on 70,000 spouses, partners, and children to be among the general 341,000 migrants it meant to welcome in 2020. This arrangement and these objectives were set preceding the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic.
