Cases of COVID-19 will likely continue to climb in Canada's most populous provinces for a while even if people start to hunker down, experts say, because of the nature of the infection. And once again Canada is extending travel restrictions until Halloween, october 31, to foreign travelers as cases of coronavirus, continue to rise.

The restriction will be applied to those travelers who are coming to Canada for a non-essential reason such as tourism, recreation, or entertainment. However, this restriction is exempt from some people.

Some people are exempt from travel restrictions, such as:

  • Canadian citizens (including dual citizens) or permanent residents;
  • certain people who have been approved for Canadian permanent residence;
  • certain temporary foreign workers;
  • certain international students;
  • protected persons;
  • immediate family members of Canadians; or
  • anyone else who falls under the exemptions listed on the government’s webpage

Although the travel restriction is extended to international travelers for another month,  Canada will continue to issue an invitation for new immigrants to apply for permanent residence.
